What Causes Seizure Followed By Cardiac Arrest And Bleeding In The Brain?
My brother, who is 62......was taken to the hospital tonight and had a seizure on the way, his heart stopped, got it restarted. The Dr. Says he has bleeding on the brain, induced coma. Is this common? No surgery.....just let the brain heal itself? So concerned that nothing else is being done!
Hi Thank you for posting on HCM, I understand your worry. Brain hemorrhage is not uncommon in this age group worldwide. Surgery can evacuate blood clot inside the brain only in selected areas in the brain and depending on the size of the bleed. However if the bleeding is deep inside the brain evacuation may actually harm the patient than letting it be there. Brain hemorrhage can commonly results in seizures and coma. On the other hand if a patient develop cardiac arrest without primary brain bleeding brain can still get damaged due to hypoxia. This can also cause seizures and coma. However management is usually supportive and conservative in deep brain bleeding. We hope to absorb blood clot itself and clinical improvement usually depends on the area of brain damage and size of the clot. Hope you find the answer is helpful.
