Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 9 yrs son had episodes of seizure in the past 1 year. There were epileptogenic discharges seen in the form of repetitive spikes and sharp waves in the left parieto-centro-temporl areas with brief tendency to generalization. I want to know what disease is my son having and what is its cure ?
Hi...by what you quote I feel that what your kid is having is a seizure disorder. This will require anti seizure medications according to the seizure type which will be evident on the EEG. He will require an MRI of the brain. The most commonly used medication will be either Valproate or Levetiracetam. I suggest you consult you pediatric neurologist regarding this.
regarding cure - usually after starting the medications, if the kid is seizure free for at least 2 years then the medications are usually tapered and stopped. But never to stop the medications suddenly and abruptly as it can cause rebound seizures.
