What Causes Seizures When Diagnosed With Elevated Blood Sugar Levels?

A relative is now hospitalized with seizures and an elevated blood sugar of over 1300. Has had recent hospitalizations with seizure activity. One doc said was not related to blood sugar. Another says, yes. Would a lumbar puncture be warranted to further evaluated?

I would explain that uncontrolled seizures are closely related to high blood sugar levels.

I don't think that a lumbar puncture would help investigate for the cause.

I would just recommend trying to correct his sugar levels as soon as possible, because at these levels, the patient may fall into coma.

If seizures persist despite the normalization of blood sugar levels, then I would recommend performing an EEG and discussing on the possibility of starting antiepileptic drugs.
