What Causes Sensitive Canker Sore On The Gums Post Replacement Of Crown Of Tooth?

I take 200mg acyclovir daily for herpes simplex II genitals for over 10 yrs. I've had a crown replaced with root still there and incurred enormous pain. Turn out I saw canker sore that appears on gum where crown was replaced sensitive to the touch. It moved from one root to another side in mouth to another root. In a lot of throb. I increased pills. Take Tylenol for pain. Was not having an outbreak. Never had in my mouth. Why could this be happening?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms it seems that there is formation of a DENTAL ABSCESS due to infection in the tooth on which crown is changed and as you had lot of pain it seems that there are vital nerve tssue present and due to nerve exposure and irritation of nerves there is severe pain and formation of pus below root tips of tooth leading to formation of an abscess which is apperent on gums too..

You should not increase the dose of the anti-viral medication as it is bacterial infection and antibiotics are needed in this case..

Consult your dentist and get an x-ray done and in case of nerve exposure removal of crown under local anaesthesia followed by root canal treatment of tooth and replacing the crown again has to be done..
It will be followed by antibiotics and painkillers..

As of now you can take TRAMADOL for pain relief..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
