What Causes Sensitivity And Soreness In Gums After Alcohol Intake?
I had a few to many cocktails on Wednesday, vomited on and off until Thursday evening and now the roof of my mouth is sensitive and gums are extteamly soar... My assumption is it has to do something with the stomach acid? How long until the pain goes away? Should I see a doctor
Hi. I've gone through your query and I can understand your anxiety.
Regular alcohol intake causes gingivitis & Periodontitis due to the irritation to the gum tissue, having poor dental hygiene & nutritional deficiencies. Also they increase the risk of dehydration and dry mouth.
I advice you, 1. Stop abusing alcohol. 2. Practice & maintain good oral hygiene. Gargle regularly with mouthwash. 3. Eating a balanced diet to escape nutritional deficiency 4. Avoid food items rich in sugar, which can encourage bacterial growth in the mouth. 5. Quit smoking 6. Periodic dental examinations .
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care.
Regards, Dr. Yogapriya V, General and family physician.
