Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Septic Deep Venous Thrombosis In Intravenous Drug Users?
am an IV drug user with a history of health care career. I believe I may have a blood clot in my right leg. I have occasionally shot in my ankle if having trouble hitting anywhere else. Anyway about 3-4 days ago I started having pain in my shin area, warm to touch, swelling, heart rate around 120. I am a bit confused because the seeking comes and goes, also I have been experiencing somewhat similar symptoms in my left leg just never as as right. I have IV d morphine, oxycodone, oxycontin, and methamphetamines in the past week. I want to make sure I m not overacting but at the same time I want to wake up in the morning.
All the symptoms you are telling are pointing towards infection in your leg probably because of nature of IV injections and non-sterile site injection as well.
I suggest you seek urgent medical and surgical care as this infection can spread elsewhere in your body and it's too late to get treatment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr SAMEEN BIN NAEEM, General & Family Physician
