What Causes Severe Abdominal Cramps And Acid Reflux During Pregnancy?

I am pregnant. I haven t been to the doctor yet, but I should be about 12 weeks along. I m having severe stomach cramps bc of gas and the runs almost always after I eat meat. I have done it after steak, hamburger, pizza, lasagna, and fish sticks. I ate cashews today and it happened again. These are probably the most severe stomach pains I have ever had. I m wondering why they are happening, what do I do if I can t eat meat my whole pregnancy, and how do I ease the gas?

Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
Those are some of the digestive manifestations that come with pregnancy especially in the first trimester.During the first trimester, muscles in the esophagus push food more slowly into the stomach and the stomach takes longer to empty. These are caused by hormonal changes that come with pregnancy and may result in acid reflux and symptoms of indigestion.I will suggest try the following:
-Take an anti-spamodic pain drug like spasfon
-An antacid like supralox
-Eat smaller meals more frequently and avoid drinking while eating. Drink water in between meals instead.
-Eat slowly and chew every bite thoroughly.
-Avoid eating a few hours before bed.
-Avoid those foods and beverages that trigger symtoms
-Avoid eating and lying immediately
-Add fiber to your diet
Hope this will help
Best regards
