What Causes Severe Abdominal Cramps And Diarrhoea?

I have had diarrhea for a week. There has been abdominal cramping and now there is mucus showing. I had eaten spinach and thought I had chewed it well only to see it pass as if it had not even digested. I had diverticulitis 7 years ago. I have not had a flair up since then. Should I be concerned? I have started liquid and soft foods with no spices: ie oatmeal, jello, barley soup broth.

Hi Dear !! Thanks for your query to HCM .
Read and reviewed your query and health concerns.
You seems to suffer from -Severe Indigestion with Entero-Colitis due to flare up of accompanied Diverticulitis.
Though your Diverticulitis might be silent,it seems to be a flare up after 7 yrs, which caused extreme indigestion of spinach, which acted as the aggravating stimulus for this flare up.
Continue with soft and bland diet you are on.
Contact Physician as 1 week is on and no relief still.
Check stool and ask doctor to script antibiotics/anti-protozoal(to control causal agents for this attack) medicines with antispasmodic(abdominal pain killer medicines)
Don't miss pleny of fluids and butter Milk-to recoup fast.
