What Causes Severe Abdominal Cramps While Having A Mirena IUD Insert?
Hello, just had my mirena IUD just replaced early this afternoon. I never had any issues with my first one. This time I have some pretty moderately intense cramping that isn t really relieved with motrin and naprosyn. Also, I can only feel 1 string and it is nearly hanging out of my vagina. This is the first time I checked it after insertion. I only have some scant bleeding. I sent my obgyn doc a message over the patient portal. Should I go to the ER tonight?
Bleeding is the most common complication of IUD. Some pain and bleeding is generally seen and goes away slowly. If you observe the severity of pain and bleeding is rising then I suggest its better to get it checked once by visiting ER to avoid further complications.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Manisha Auradkar, General & Family Physician
