What Causes Severe Abdominal Pain And Belching?

For the past two days, I am having severe pain in my upper stomach and along my ribs. I have also been belching a lot. Sometimes the pain may shoot to my back but most of all it s located in my upper stomach area. About 25 years ago I was hospitalized with some of these same symptoms and was diagnosed with pancreatitis. That is why I am concerned about these symptoms...

Hello,

The symptoms described look more likely due to hyperacidity and/or acid peptic disease rather than an attack of pancreatitis. So please take either H2 receptor antagonist like Ranitidine or a PPI like Omeprazole. That should relieve the symptoms. For pancreatitis to be precipitated gall stones and heavy alcohol drinking are the precipitating factors. It is better to avoid both.

With above treatment the symptoms should be relieved. Then there is no reason to worry.
