Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Severe Abdominal Pain And Bleeding Post Umbilicus Hernia Surgery?
I had 2 umbilicus hernia operations last year. First surgery was in April 2014 and immediately after I developed a severe infection that made me bleed for about a month. 3 months later another hernia was discovered next to previous surgery area. I had surgery again in Sept 2014 and again I bleed out for about 3 weeks. I still have pain in the surgery area and sometimes the pain is very severe. This pain can even occur when I am sleeping. On both occasions mesh was used for the surgery. Is there a possibility that I may have another hernia in the same surgery area.
The pain with bleeding at the operative site of umbilical hernia indicates possible infection at the mesh repair site. In my clinic, after thorough clinical examination, I do suggest: - Complete hemogram - Fasting blood sugar - Ultrasound of the abdomen and pelvis
If any of the investigative reports are available with you, kindly share with me during follow up period for better and healthy discussion.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
