What Causes Severe Abdominal Pain During Menopause?

I am a 56 year old, menopausal female. For the past 18 hours, I have been experiencing excessive abdominal discomfort and pain that changes location between my upper abdomen and lower abdomen. I feels like it is gas related, but I have not been successful in getting any relief with OTC gas relief , drinking gingerale and senna laxative.

Hi,

Noted your history and understood your concerns. Well, menopause is not related to any pain in the abdomen. You have got pain in the abdomen that is changing the location at the age of 56 and OTC Gas Relief, Gingerale and Senna Laxatives have not helped you.

Hence, the commonest cause I can think about is one of the following:
Diverticulitis causes changing pain in the abdomen.
Lymph node or any other inflammatory disease of the small intestine.

I would advise you the following in such a situation:
- Rush to the ER or your Doctor for a clinical examination and get a referral for a General Surgeon.
- CT scan of the abdomen, tests of blood, urine and stool. Any other investigations as may be needed.

All this will give you a proper diagnosis and thus have proper management. Do not try anything at home for now as it is 18 hours that you are suffering and you may lose the Golden Period of diagnosis and management.
