What Causes Severe Abdominal Pain In An Elderly Woman?
Hi - my 92 year old mother is complaining of severe pain in her abdomen. She has had kidney stones in past. Should I take her to hospital or can a pain medication be provided by her doctor to ease pain while passing without having to go to hospital which she does not want to do? Is there anyway to determine other than ultrasound or CT Scan?
* Primary relief with granny`s abdomen pain would be the immediate intake of analgesic as Diclofenac, Ibuprofen or Dicyclomine whatever is available to nearby chemists through your GP`s prescription; provided there is no history of drug sensitivity to the said molecules.
* In case , she does not want USG or CT evaluation for workup of cause of pain, I would best prefer a consultation with a surgeon who will evaluate clinically the possible cause and management guidelines accordingly without such wanted reports, not accepted by the patient.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
