What Causes Severe Abdominal Pain Radiating To The Shoulder Blades?
Hello. I m a 51 year old woman in good health. I have had two reoccurring episodes of severe abdominal pain which actually radiates to the center of both of my shoulders, two days in a row. Both episodes followed the ingestion of a high-sugar, alcoholic beverage. (Yesterday I had approx 6oz of Hard ginger ale 4.5% alcohol. Today, one 8oz BudLite Straw-ber-Rita.) I m an occasional social drinker and have never had a problem with Captain Morgan Spiced rum and Diet Coke... These sharp pains have me a bit concerned....
Hello, This could be from an inflammation of the pancreas. The pancreas is very sensitive to alcohol. When it is inflamed you can get a severe boring abdominal pain that radiates to the shoulders. You may want to see your doctor for some blood tests to look at pancreatic function. Another option is that you may have an ulcer and the alcohol is causing irritation of the ulcer. Stomach pain can also sometimes radiate to the shoulders. In any case you need to see your doctor to get this sorted out Regards, Dr. Robinson
