What Causes Severe Abdominal Pain With Vomiting And Diarrhea?

I began having severe abdominal pain early Thursday morning. I threw up twice and am still having watery diarrhea. I felt a little better yesterday, no stomach pain and no diarrhea but today I feel worse than I did to begin with. What is going on and will I ever feel better?

Hello,

You are having severe abdominal pain with vomiting and diarrhea. Your symptoms are indicative of food poisoning, food intolerance. You have not mentioned what you ate prior to the beginning of your symptoms. However, you can take anti emetics to stop vomiting. Take anti-diarrheals to stop loose stools. Presently, you are feeling sick. You are suggested to take sips of water and fluid to maintain your electrolyte balance.

Take rest. If you are having abdominal pain take ranitidine (Rantac-150mg) to feel better and get rid of gas and acid reflux. After you are comfortable, take semi solid diet like oats meal, porridge, custard, etc. You should feel better in a day or two, if not get clinically examined by a GP, to rule out liver problem, cholecystitis, peptic ulcer, appendicitis, etc. You will be recommended to get blood workouts, tests and investigations done. You will be treated accordingly. Stay away from addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
