What Causes Severe Abdominal Pain?

I have evere abdominal/intestinal pain going from myloer abdomen to just below my breasts, at which point it is intense. This pain only happens when I lie down on my back. I sit up or stand up and the pain goes away. This happens every night. What can it e?
