What Causes Severe Acid Reflux After A Hip Replacement Surgery?

Hi, about 20 years ago I had an operation to correct a hiatus hernia, for years afterwards I have not had any problems withsickness, indigestion or heart burn at all. A couple years ago I had a hip replacement operation and was violently sick afterwards. Since then I have been suffering with acid indigestion and similar simtoms of the hernia, also lately I have had excessive seliver and thickly cough. Is it possible the hiatus hernia has returned? Many thanks Andy.

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted your history of surgery to correct hiatus hernia 20 years ago which made you symptom free till you got operated for hip replacement and started developing acidity, indigestion, symptoms of hiatus hernia like heart burn, excessive salivation and thickly cough.
It is possible that hiatus hernia might have returned.
This can be confirmed by upper GI endoscopy and related investigations under the guidance of your operating surgeon or his team that was with him 20 years ago.
Till then get started with PPI like omeprazole, domperidone and antacid.
Get shifted on soft bland small frequent meals.
Sleep in a reclining position and reduce weight if you are overweight.
Get re-surgery done if the medical management fails.
