I have had severe anal itching for about 4 weeks. I have used hemroid cream and anti fungal cream and nothing seems to help. I looked at it today and all around the anus is purple. What could be wrong? I had been having anal sex with my husband but have not had since this has started around 4 weeks ago.
Anal itching is often a sign of pin worms, a parasite. This is not uncommon in general, especially if you have children in your house and bed. You may be able to see thin white threads, about 1 cm long, in your poop. Sometime you may find them with the 'scotch tape test' - at night you use a little scotch tape to try to pick them up - either from your bedclothes or from around your anus. These will need to be treated with pyrantel pamoate or albendazole.
