What Causes Severe Anxiety After An Insect Bite?

Hello,
I am male, 23, living in NYC.
I saw a bat on the ground a week ago at night on the beach by my house. I poked it with my flashlight but then I noticed it was copulating. I backed up and it jumped up and I turned and ran. I did not feel a bite or it hit me at all but was worked up with anxiety starting on Saturday night and felt that the skin on the back of my head was stinging. I also felt hot, like hot flashes and took my temperature a few times where it was around 98.4-99.

I woke up Sunday night freaking out. Sweating, panicking, and not being able to go back to bed.

I couldn’t deal with the anxiety anymore so Monday morning, two days ago, I went to the ER and got the HRIG post-exposure vaccine and the RabAvert vaccine as well. That night, I woke up quite a few times feeling hot and with my heart pounding, very difficult to go back to sleep.

Tomorrow is my next dose but I have bad anxiety still, I’m still waking up in the middle of the night but without the hot flashes but I’m not eating much at all, just no interest in food.. But I’m thirsty as heck but still have a dry mouth.

Was it too late to get the vaccine? Am I going to die?

Hello. I feel you are having anxiety disorder. You need to follow some lifestyle tips

1. Connect with others: Loneliness and isolation set the stage for anxiety. Decrease your vulnerability by reaching out to others. Make it a point to see friends, join a self-help or support group, or share your worries and concerns with a trusted loved one.

2. Practice relaxation techniques: When practiced regularly, relaxation techniques such as mindfulness meditation, progressive muscle relaxation, and deep breathing can reduce anxiety symptoms and increase feelings of relaxation and emotional well-being.

3. Exercise regularly: Exercise is a natural stress buster and anxiety reliever. To achieve the maximum benefit, aim for at least 30 minutes of aerobic exercise on most days.

4. Get enough sleep: A lack of sleep can exacerbate anxious thoughts and feelings, so try to get seven to nine hours of quality sleep a night. If you struggle with sleep, adopting smart sleep habits can make a big difference.

5. Be smart about caffeine and alcohol: If you struggle with anxiety, you may want to consider reducing your caffeine intake or cutting it out completely. Same with alcohol, which can make anxiety worse.

6. Train your brain to stay calm: Worrying is a mental habit you can learn how to break. Strategies such as creating a worry period, challenging anxious thoughts, and learning to accept uncertainty can significantly reduce anxiety and fear.

7. If you have anxiety that’s severe enough to interfere with your ability to function, medication may help relieve your symptoms. You need to visit a psychiatrist who will help you with medications
