What Causes Severe Anxiety And Depression While On Ativan And Klonopin?

My mother had a stroke several years ago...resulting in loss of sight and short term memory. She has high anxiety, depression and hallucinates. I am concerned about the prescriptions the new doctor at the nursing home prescribed. Her took her off xanax which she was on prior to stroke, added attivan as needed. That was a disaster. He has been playing around with her haldol and added klonopin. She is very distraught still. She was doing ok, not great before his changes. I don t know what to do

Hi,

The stroke itself causes memory changes and depression.

Frontal lobe lesions may lead to behavioral changes.

Parkinsonism or Alzheimer's disease may also be associated with mood changes.

Xanax is a short-acting benzodiazepine which may cause fewer side effects. But both may cause memory problems.

Please get it done MRI brain, mini-mental state examination, complete blood picture.

If symptoms not improved please consult your neuro physician, he will examine and treat you accordingly.
