General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history about a 73 year old male developing left sciatica like pain three days after colonoscopy. unable to walk.Colonoscopy itself is not directly responsible for such symptoms. Although the positioning during colonoscopy might have enhanced the pre-existing problems. Hence I would advise you the following in such a situation:
- Consult an Orthopedic Surgeon or a Neurologist for clinical evaluation.
- MRI of the lower spine can tell whether there is a prolapsed disc causing all these symptoms.
- Depending upon the severity of the case the treatment will be decided.
- For mild case the treatment is bed rest, traction on spine, physiotherapy and so on along with medicines to reduce the symptoms. If the disc prolapse is more then you may need surgery to remove the disc and as needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
