What Causes Severe Back Pain?

Hello, I awoke one morning with the area around (what seems like) my tailbone hurting a lot. To the point where it is extremely difficult to walk (as in excruciatingly painful). I m not sure if it is the bone itself that hurts or it is the muscle around it. When I lay down for extended periods of time, it restores minimal movement but soon after getting up, the pain is back to the usual level of extreme.
