What Causes Severe Backache Along With Low Grade Fever And Fatigue?
severe back pain for 2 weeks. recent x-rays not read yet. low grade fever for 2 weeks. lack of appetite. fatigue in lower legs. recent chest x-ray says it shows emphysema ( I quit smoking in 1984 but I was subject to second hand smoke growing up back in the 60 s and 70 s). Laying down I have pain in the chest area but it s not heart related due to recent stress test good results.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
A low-grade fever and fatigue are commonly seen with emphysema. So, it is better to consult a pulmonologist and get done the clinical examination of the respiratory system and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
PFT will not only diagnose emphysema but it will also tell you about the severity of the disease and treatment is based on severity only.
You will mostly improve with inhaled bronchodilators (formoterol or salmeterol) and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) (budesonide or fluticasone).
For a backache, you need to wait for x-ray result. You may also need physiotherapy and painkillers.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Kaushal Bhavsar
