What Causes Severe Body Ache?

my husband is 52 and has a history of laying carpet for 20 years, has since change his career to IT. He has been having aches and pain that seems to move around his body. his feet would swell a little then travel to his hands then his knees. I am thinking arthritis but he does not think so

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Aches & pains in the whole body can be symptoms of infection (flu, bacterial infections), side effect of some medication or exertion, low sodium/potassium levels, thyroid dysfunction or Rheumatic arthritis. Let your husband visit ER to get physically examined & get CBC, Urinalysis done to rule out infections. Get him all thyroid function tests done. If your husband is complaining of joint pains along with the body ache you it can be RA. RA manifests with an elevated wbc count & C reactive protein (CRP). If need be he can have tests done for anti-CCP & RF. In the meantime help be stay well hydrated, give him ORS, juice & soups, multivitamin dietary supplement, Diet rich in calcium & protein. Let him stay at rest. He can take Ibuprofen or some muscle relaxant for relieve.
