What Causes Severe Body Itchiness After Discontinuing Prednisone?

My whole body is extremely itchy. I did not have any visible rashes until yesterday. I m not sure if its just irritated from me scratching it or if its actually hives appearing. I believe it might be withdrawals from/a bad reaction to on prednisone which I took for 5 days (40mg) and then stopped almost 2 weeks ago. It seems to be getting worse. It started out mainly located near my armpits and on my thighs about 2 weeks ago but has started worsening in other areas now and more intensely in those places. What do I do? Will Benadryl help? Should I go to the hospital? Its extremely irritating.

Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to an allergic reaction.

You can try using Benadryl to relieve the symptoms.

If the symptoms continue I recommend you to go to the emergency room for further evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
