What Causes Severe Chest Congestion While Taking Lisinopril For High BP?
I have extreme congestion in my chest . to the point where I vomit almost daily. The vomit is nothing but clear mucus. this has been going on for four months. I take high blood pressure pills (lisinopar 10 mg). the congestion is all day and gets heavier at night.
Hello Lisinopril belong to a class of drugs (ACE inhibitors)which can cause cough. That's its unpleasant side effect. And usually when some patient presents with cough-the physician change the drug to another class of drug (ARB) which has similar action of lisinopril but doesn't cause cough. A few other possibilities... If you are having cough associated with productive sputum with sudden onset breathlessness - better to get a chest X-ray/ecg and full blood count /electrolytes/renal function tests -consult your physician to change lisinopril and to make sure you are not having any cardiac complications leading to ur lungs fill up with fluids. Then your doctor will have to treat you with frusemide which is a diuretic to remove excess fluids from lungs and decrease load of heart. Also if there is any risk factors like smoking/alcohol kindly stop asap. If you have chest congestion associated with fever/sore throat/common cold/phlegm - then it might be probably of some respiratory infection -start on steam inhalation/saline gargles/carbocisteine 375mg tab three times a day for 7days/paracetamol 650mg sixth hourly/sometimes need antibiotics also. But Unlikely as you have symptoms for past 4months.To be on safer side -do the above mentioned investigations as you have hypertension(to rule out heart failure/edema lungs). Also change to medications like irbesartan or Losartan by stopping lisinopril. Vomiting might be due to excessive coughing. Have some mucaine gel to prevent gastritis and drink plenty to prevent dehydration.
