Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi,I m a 19 year old female and I ve been having really bad chest pain. I ve had episodes where I feel this crushing pain in the middle of my chest. And I feel this sharp pain in my heart. I also feel shortness of breath. Then whenever I move in feel the pain move down to my arm and when I breathe deeply I feel the pain my back.
The main concern with chest pain is heart disease but this would be unusual at your age and also heart-related pain is not worsened with breathing or movement of the limbs or upper body.
It is possible that the pain may be due to costochondritis which is inflammation of the cartilage that lies between the sternum and the ribs.
The use of anti-inflammatory medication is helpful for most persons though some require more intense therapy. Rest is also important.
If you are unsure then you should see your doctor for an assessment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
