What Causes Severe Chest Pain, Peripheral Vision Loss And Leg Weakness?

Hi. My mom had sudden and severe chest pain this morning. She saw black in her eyes and also had weak legs. She sprayed nitro under her tongue and after a few minutes the pain subsided somewhat. She is 93 years old. She has angina and aortic stenosis. What was this that she experienced this morning? Was it a heart attack?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
The symptoms your mother experienced like having chest pain, peripheral loss of vision, weakness in the legs and getting relief from nitro suggests that she had an episode of coronary artery spasm with angina pectoris.
Kindly get her cardiac function evaluated by ECG and Echocardiogram with Doppler studies to know what would be the functioning status of her heart.
Kindly consult Cardiologist with the report for proper evaluation and appropriate management.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
