Hello,

Persistent bouts of a cough can cause severe pain in the abdominal wall which may subside in a few days and requires no medication. You may try using hot water or wheat bag to minimize the pain.

On a few occasions, particularly in people with a weak abdominal wall like obese, women with a history of multiple pregnancies, previous history of abdominal surgery in past may develop Hernia after severe episodes of a cough.

If the pain worsens or does not subside in a few days consult a doctor as you might need an through abdominal examination and investigation like ultrasound.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
