What Causes Severe Confusion While On High Depakote Dosage?

My depakote was recently increased from 750mgs to 2000mgs per day so that my levels were good after blood work. For 3 weeks I ran out of medication and before I got another prescription I drank... ( which i shouldn t be and don t because i m in recovery but without my medication I feel the need to unfortunately) I just signed up for outpatient therapy but the night before i did my fiance woke me up and i had no idea where I was, i couldn t count to ten, he recorded all of it and i couldn t watch. Was it the increase of depakote that gave me the reaction or was it my drinking? I don t plan on drinking ever again. Depakote is the first med after many years that has actually helped with my bipolar disorder after abusing opiates for many years. Should I be mindful of what i m taking? This medication is scaring me. Can you please give me some facts on this medication?
