Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Almost every day I have congestion or mucus in my throat. It takes a lot of coughing to finally get it cleared. A cough drop or two will usually help. I recently heard about a man that had a similar problem and he was diagnosed with throat cancer. What kind of problem do I have?
After going through your query I understand your concern.
I would like to tell you that throat congestion is a very common problem and can be because of cold or flu. Excessive mucus can be because of pharyngitis, laryngitis, strep throat etc that need further evaluation for proper management.
The best treatment to get rid from mild symptoms would be drink lots of water, tea with honey, gargle twice with warm water. Over the counter medicines antihistamines can also be taken.
Kindly consult with a Physician for further diagnostic and physical evaluation.
Hope to have been helpful.
Kind Regards Dr. Navneet Bansal
