What Causes Severe Constipation After Hysterectomy Surgery?
I am a 51 yr old female, about 5 5 and weighing 250. I had a hysterectomy last Friday. I am no longer on any of the pain medicine that I was taking. My problem is constipation, I have been taking Miralax twice a day but hardly any movement. Is it OK to add other softeners or more doses of miralax, I have been experiencing cramping in rectal area also.
Hello, Thanks for writing to us. I have gone through your query ad understood the concern. In the current scenario, I would prefer going for increased dietary fiber. The dosage of the medication is probably not sufficient to initiate the bowel movement alone. Cramping feeling in rectal area could also be due fecal impaction and to relieve this, anal dilatation is useful. Dilators are available in several sizes and you can use one of them that suits you after informing your health care provider. Glycerinenema can be of some use if there is difficulty that persists. This should be kept as the last resort. Hope you find this information useful. Wish you good health.
