What Causes Severe Constipation In A Child Despite Taking Miralax?
Hello. I have a 5 soon to be 6 yr old. He has had constipation issues for awhile now. I am having to use a dulcolax suppositories and he is getting a loose ribbon type of poop out, I know there is big hard stool in him and it s going around it. His pediatric put him on miralax and he hasn t passed the hard stools yet. It s day 4 on the miralax. What can I do so he can get all the poo out?
Hi, Welcome To HCM & Thanks For Asking Your Query Here
I can understand that its been 4 days since you are giving Miralax to your child and yet he has to Pass Stool comfortably, as long as your child is normal and not having Abdominal cramps, pain and discomfort in lower abdomen there should be no serious concern
Along with laxative give your child A high-fiber diet with plenty of fluids. eg. plenty of fresh fruits and juices and vegetables, high-fiber cereals, whole grain breads (look for at least 3-5 grams of fiber per serving), and a variety of beans and other legumes, like chickpeas and lentils ,Milk is also a good choice
3 bowel movement in a week considered as normal but if your child complaints of abdominal cramps and severe discomfort , if he doesn't pass stool even after all home treatment and laxative you should contact your pediatric to get it evaluated , there may be requirement of enema in severe case
I hope it help Thanks & Get well Soon
