I have had a cough for about 3 weeks with light yellow phylm. I don t think that I have any other symptoms? If I have lung cancer what other symptoms should I be experiencing? I am 55 years old. I was a social smoker in my 20 s for a about 5 years.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for the query. I understand your concern.
Prolonged cough with yellowish phlegm suggests..bonchitis/asthma , respiratory tract infectin with or without sinusitis.Prolonged cough with low grade fever may be due to tubercular infection.... confirmed by investigations.
Lung cancer also has cough with expectoration... which also has blood & is accompanied by fever &weight loss.... needs specific investigations to diagnose.
Prolonged cough demands a through respiratory examination with blood test/sputim test/xray chest as per need...
A specific intime treatment would relieve it.. please don't worry....only need is earlydiagnosis &specific treatment.
Thañks.
