Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I ve been in Australia for a couple of weeks and got back a week ago. I/ve had flu like symptoms but coughing has been bad with spitting out mucus. I had the same think here in the US about a month ago and went to Urgent care where they said i Had sinus congestion and a cold whereby when laying down the fluid concentrated in my lungs. That caused the coughing and mucus. It seemed to clear up when I went overseas but then I was around a lot of people with a couple having coughing fits as well which worried me. I have now had the cough for around 10 days. I m doing what was recommended by Urgent care - breath steam, take flo nase and at night take Cheratussin. Tonight my lungs fill very congested and worries me.
Severe cough and chest congestion which seems to be severe upper respiratory tract infection leading to bronchitis. Need not to worry. I would suggest you visit pulmonologist once and get yourself examined.
You should go for pulmonary function tests to find out the exact extent of infection. Avoid cold carbonated beverages. Take a proper course of antibiotics Augmentin 635 mg along with bronchodilators.
Avoid oily, sharp and spicy food and take a diet rich in multivitamins. Drink plenty of fluids.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Harry Maheshwari, Dentist
