General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Cough and chest pain that do not improve warrant medical examination. A common cold might be the cause of the cough and the cough, on the other hand, may cause chest pain but it is best to have his lungs examined and rule out lung infection first.

In case there is an abnormal finding during the examination and lung infection is suspected, he will need to take antibiotics with azithromycin being a very commonly prescribed one.

I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
