What Causes Severe Cough, Fever And Tightness In The Chest?

On Wednesday my wife and I went to the Walgreens clinic. Her symptoms were a hard, deep cough, some drainage and tired. She did not have an elevated temp. The NP said she heard some crackling in my wife s chest and prescribed a Z-Pak. My wife is still having chest tightness, heaviness in her arms and is short of breath. Percussion seems to help considerably. The cough has lessened considerably but is still present. She has also resisted going to the urgent care facility.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You have mentioned that the doctor had heard abnormal respiratory sound while doing Auscultation. Hence bronchitis-like respiratory tract infection or bronchiectasis should be ruled out.

For that, I suggest investigating with digital chest X-ray and spirometry for primary work up.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Parth Goswami, General & Family Physician
