What Causes Severe Cough Post Extraction Of Wisdom Tooth?
I had my wisdom tooth extracted yesterday (bottom right side of face) and i have horrible cough. I ve followed all instructions following dental extractions (no sucking straws/spitting/smoking, no strenuous activity, lots of sleep and rest, eating soft foods such as applesauce and mashed potatoes) except i cant stop nor control the cough. Can a cough cause a dry socket?
Understanding your concern. As per your query severe cough post extraction of wisdom tooth is due to possibility of acute bacterial sinusitis with involvement of lower respiratory tract. Cough is not causative factor for dry socket. Dry cough occurs due to improper healing and infection of socket post extraction. I would suggest you to take few preventive measures such as - You should take complete antibiotic course, decongestants, mucolytics and broncodilators. You should perform gargle three times in day with lukewarm water and a pinch of salt. You should also perform hot steam inhalation. Avoid cold drinks, sour and oily foods. Visit ENT specialist once and get complete hemogram done and start treatment accordingly.
Hope your concern has been resolved. Get Well Soon. Dr. Harry Maheshwari
