What Causes Severe Cough When Diagnosed With An Enlarged Thyroid Gland?
I HAVE OSTEOARTHRITIS. 70 YEAR OLD FEMALE. JUST GOT MY CT SCAN BACK FOR HAVING A COUGH FOR A MONTH WITH SOME BLOOD SPITTING UP. ALL THIS WAS NORMAL. BUT THEY FOUND I HAVE AN ENLARGED THYROID WITH MULTIBLE NODULES. COUGH ANY OF THHIS BE MY CAUSE FOR COUGH? thank you

If the nodules are large enough to affect the airway, then they could definitely contribute to the cough that you are experiencing.
If the nodules are small and there is no impact on the airway, then they are not playing a role in this symptom.
The most common cause for persistent cough is post nasal drip , approximately 20% of persons with post nasal drip are not aware of the drip itself and only present with a cough.
Post nasal drip can be associated with blood on coughing because of the associated inflammation of the upper part of the airways.
Other causes of persistent coughing are: GERD , asthma and non asthmatic eosinophilic bronchitis.
Your doctor should consider assessing for these conditions to see if one or more is contributing to your symptoms.
