What Causes Severe Cough When Diagnosed With Pneumonia?

I m a 43 year old female diagnosed with pneumonia 2 days ago. My family doctor gave me Rocephin at the doctors office and sent me home with oral omnicef(since levaquin interacted with my Celexa). Today I began experiencing what, I think, are bronchospasms... Severe coughing episodes with SOB. I feel like I should be improving after 48 hours of antibiotics, so is this expected or should I call my doctor tomorrow?

Hello,

Continue antibiotics and start on bronchodilators like salbutamol or deriphylline: If cough associated with sputum, go for a sputum culture and change antibiotics according to the sputum culture reports.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
