What Causes Severe Cough?
I have coughing spasms / fits They say from allergy induced asthma symptoms They ve tried everything , allergy shots, inhailers, nebulizer machine, steroids, etc Been going on for years (at least 15) I am female age 58, had five bypass surgery 8 1/2 years ago I cough so hard, it wears me out at work and home, wakes me at night, etc

-Auscultation
-Spirometry
-Blood pressure measurement
-Ekg
-Echocardiography if needed
Spirometry will rule out asthma if present..
According to cause specific treatment can be guided
For ex. If heart failure detected than diuretic given
