What Causes Severe Coughing?

I had what seemed to be a really bad cold earlier this year. Earthquake type of coughing. It seems that it won t go away. Now, I m wheezing just going up a flight of stairs. Is this bronchitis? I m a generally healthy person. I do not smoke and never have. My brother in Colorado is suffering from the same thing. I m in eastern Iowa.

HI
Well come to HCM
I really appreciate your concern, allergic cough could be likely condition and it may not need any treatment, and if the condition long last up to weeks then it may need investigation like x-ray chest and routine blood test, till then cough suppressant agent can be used (Dextromethorphan) but most of the time it is the self limiting condition and no need to worry about this hope this information helps.
