What Causes Severe Cramps And Edema In The Hands And Feet?

my husband has been experiencing severe cramps in his legs and feet as well as hands . Along with edema in his feet. His primary physician put him on a water tablet to reduce the edema , and that has worked , His history is that he has had a dissecting aorta before (which I feel really blessed that it was caught ) and he has 2 diffent types of stents in his heart one with titanium , and I do not remember what the other 2 stents were made of, I am extremely concerned about him and he cannot afford to go to his cardiologist to see if any of that is related . His work has a 2500.00 deductible even before he can start seeing any md we are even having problems with paying for his reg payments to see a reg dr each month

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

it sounds like he may be developing heart failure. He needs an echocardiogram to make this diagnosis. Unfortunately his cardiologist is the one that must do this test so see if you could work out some sort of payment plan with the cardiologist.

Regards
