What Causes Severe Cramps In Lower Right Abdomen Despite Taking Magnesium Citrate?

Hi , I have been having a lot of cramping in the lower right side of my abdomen . I feel pressure to go the restroom but nothing. It began on Saturday evening , so I took a laxative but the cramping didn t go away. Yesterday I experienced chills I took 2 Tylenol and went to sleep in the afternoon. I woke up and I had a light dinner and then took a 10fl. oz. of Magnesium Citrate. It diminished the cramping but not to much. This morning I didn t eat anything other than water. I still feel the pain.

Hello,

Fever like symptoms, chills and pain in the side of the abdomen are typical symptoms of urinary tract infection. Tylenol may give you symptomatic relief but as soon as the effects will wear off, the pain will start again.

I would advise you to go for an antibiotic course. Levofloxacin 250 mg (Levoflox) twice a day for five days can help you to get rid of the infection and subsiding pain. You can continue with Tylenol for symptomatic relief until you feel better. Drink lots of fluids to eliminate infection faster through urine.

If you do not feel better in three days, you may have to go for blood test (Complete Blood Count, CBC) and Urine culture. If you feel better before that, do finish complete course of the antibiotic.

I hope this information helps. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. Take care.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
