What Causes Severe Cramps In The Calf Muscles?

I have been having severe muscle cramping in my calf s and my feet. Also in my right sided upper abdominal muscles. This has been going on for several months and is getting worse. Mostly at night but then recently more often during the day. Could it by my Pravastatin which I started taking about a year ago?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Pravastatin may affect the muscles and cause pain and cramps.
To make sure that your symptoms are related to it or not you might need to have a blood test called creatin kinase and also liver tests (ALT, AST, bilirubin, etc).

If these come up high, it is very likely the cramps are related to pravastatin and you might need to talk with your doctor on alternative treatment for your lipids.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
