What Causes Severe Cramps In The Upper Thighs?

I am 73 year old female with diabetes. I take 3 Metformin a day and also Caltrate D 600 mg x 4 per day since I had my thyroid removed end of January. I also had 1 parathyroid removed as well,. I take potassium and magnesium but recently have been getting severe muscle crams in upper thighs and they wake me up middle of night

Hello,

The muscle cramps you are experiencing may be from diabetes and also parathyroid gland origin. Try to keep blood sugar levels under control. Do HbA1c examination to see the blood sugar levels for last 3 months.

Also check blood electrolytes. You need to take more calcium because hypocalcemia may be present. You can take Calcitral or Forteo.
