What Causes Severe Depression In A Woman?

my daughter had a mental breakdown the Christmas Eve after she graduated from college. She was in house for three days. since then we have gone to phychaist, conselors, meds, and so on. this has been going on for years, she s 34. she has never had a lot of friends, a job for very long or a boyfriend for very long. I have heard everything from scriphia to depressioon. Most of the time she s fine, sweet,shy abd good natured.But i don t know how to deal wiith it. It breaks my heart when she like this and she doesn t confide in me. I don t know what it is, what causesd it or how to handleit. We went today to the phys dr and got new meds. she came home and drove off. I don t know where she is and the police won t do anything for 24 hpurs.And the drs can t talk to me about what s going on. I m so worried and don t know what to do.

It sounds like you love your daughter a lot and that is wonderful that you are concerned enough to assist her. Depression can be caused by many factors. Genetics seems to play a large part. Certain life situations can be the breaking point such as relationships, jobs, friends, etc. It also can be set off by hormones. Has she tried taking a birth control pill? The first thing you want to ask her is if she is suicidal. It is a difficult question but as her mother, tell her how much you love her and care for her. let her know that you are worried and then ask if she is suicidal. Try to sit down with her and talk about her feelings and let her know you are always there for her. It does take depression medication about 2-4 weeks to be fully effective so during that time, try to keep her mind busy. Go out to lunch and have a mother-daughter day. Try watching a movie or playing a game every night to keep the same routine. Good luck!
