What Causes Severe Diarrhea After Colectomy?

I had surgery to remove part of my colon 2 weeks ago. My recovery is going very well, and I feel about 90% of my normal health---just some fatigue, which is normal. My question is, Is it normal to have diarrhea? My diet is pretty much back to normal, but I am still having loose stools. Thank you

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Lose stool is quite common after colectomy, it is because absorptive pattern of the bowel is changed and which in turn leads to loose stools. Generally, your body will adapt to it and the loose stools will settle.

If symptoms persist a repeat colonoscopy is required to look for any other pathology.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain
