What Causes Severe Diarrhea With Abdominal Cramps And Bloating?
I have had diarrhea for the last 4 weeks and when I don t have diarrhea I am constipated and feel the need to strain there has been some blood but not evertime. I have had severe intermittent stomach cramping for the last 6 months and bloating every day. I am struggling with my energy levels and am finding it hard to get up in the morning even after plenty of sleep. This last week I have noticed horizontal ridges appear on my small toe nails do i need to take vitamin supplements? I don t want to waste a doctors time but I am starting to feel very ill. I spent the day in bed today but am still tired and exhausted and I have had the sweats i just do not feel myself. Any advice would be appreciated Tiggi
It would be best to be seen with a history of intermittent diarrhea for a 4 week period.
Fatigue and weakness would be a consequence of diarrhea and likely decreased appetite. The horizontal lines are also an indication of inadequate nutrition.
It would be best to be assessed, this should a complete history and examination with a focus on the abdomen. A stool sample may be sent to the lab and imaging may be needed as well.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
