Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am trying to find the name of a gastro which my brother had a few weeks ago. He was in an isolation room in Intensive care in a Melbourne hospital with severe diarrhoea, being given fluids IV, and having blood tests done four hourly, trying to find out what it was. It is a very unusual name. Can you help?

What Causes Severe Diarrhea?
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic There are different viruses, bacteria and parasites that can cause gastroenteritis. Viral or bacterial infections are more common. Some viruses associated with this infection are: rotavirus, norovirus, astrovirus. The leading bacteria associated with gastroenteritis are salmonella, shigella, campylobacter. It may be one of these, it would be best, however, to speak to his doctors to determine the exact pathogen. I hope this helps
